having a party & need ideas/inpso for your backdrop?

My 3 biggest tips on party planning & selecting a backdrop

1. Stick with solid colors or non-distracting patterns

I know that its tempting to select a backdrop that is busy because they make some really cute options to choose from but when you are putting multiple people in the frame with props, those types of backdrops end up being too much & people get lost in the image. you want the attention to go directly to their faces!!

So which color should you select?

I like to tell people that if you have a bright environment, try to select a darker backdrop & vice versa. However, it’s completely up to you!! This is the fun part! if you want to play it safe, I suggest sticking to colors like black, silver, rose gold, or gold. But they make backdrops in every color you can imagine!

make sure that whichever backdrop you select is not transparent. It needs to act like a wall or it will not look good in the images.

At this point, you are probably wondering how big of a backdrop you need… For our photo booth & even for a DIY photo booth, I suggest getting at least an 8×8 ft backdrop. Personally, we like to use a 10x10ft backdrop which gives us more room to decorate around the backdrop & a larger area to fit more people in!!

2. Texture is your friend

Finding backdrops with some texture just simply elevate the photos and add some dimension!! Or if you have a plain solid backdrop, I would suggest adding some elements into your backdrop setup such as balloons, flowers, Fairy lights/curtain light strings, etc.

3. avoid vinyl material backdrops

If I could only give you once piece of advice that you take away from this, it is to avoid purchasing and using any backdrops made from vinyl and here’s why:

usually very thin & end up being transparent or see-through

– vinyl reflects light very easily & if you need to use flash with the photo booth because of the light availability or it’s a late party, this may end up washing out people in your images

– vinyl usually arrives in a folded manner & is almost impossible to get the creases out once you try to unfold it. you may end up needing to use an iron or a steamer to get these tough creases out.

So which material should you buy??

I suggest purchasing non-reflective fabrics such as polyester/cotton, velvet, muslin, or paper.

Here are some easy/affordable options:

-sequin curtain style backdrops (Avoid Panel Shimmer ones)

– Metallic fringe foil streamers (A great way to include multiple colors to fit your theme)

-Crepe paper streamers

-velvet panels (you can also mix up colors this way as well)
